IF ANYTHING, I would like to bring my character(and character only, no weapons, lvl1 and just the unruned armor he last acquired on his back) over to GW2 but only as described in parenthasis, which means you go through the training for GW2 and work for a starter weapon to begin work on your historic events to follow, along the way you can make your gold to start reaquiring most needed weapons and runes for your armor.
I would love this.

I completely agree with you, but GW2 is just going to be another game... so if you don't like it, don't buy it. Personally, I think it might as well be world of charrcraft, and I doubt the game, or more importantly the PvP, will be anything like the original GW. It really shouldn't even be part of the "guild wars" franchise IMO, because it will be so different in terms of grind and stuff... but whatever.

I'm really looking forward to GW2. I'm really looking forward to a fresh start. I can't wait to be a Charr. That's gonna be so cool (although I'm wondering how this Charr character will be descended from the pretty young human ranger... Well, I'm not really wondering. I know how it will happen, but that thought is kind of... disturbing). And I am actually looking forward to an increased level cap. I always love seeing my character develop more and more throughout the game (I usually buy level cap removers for offline rpgs), and with that buddy system they were talking about implementing, it won't matter what level you are, because if you team up with someone higher level, they can boost your own level for the duration of the mission.

To be honest, I probably wouldn't play GW2 if they had allowed direct character transfers. I mean, when I first heard about the fact that my ranger would just die and I'd start again a few hundred years in the future, I was a bit bummed. But then I thought about it. Why limit the engine for GW2 by making it compatible with GW1? Because that is what they would be doing if they allowed direct transfers. Let's face it, the GW1 engine isn't perfect (I think that's one of the reasons they decided to move on and make a new engine), so why would you want those faults moved across to GW2?

So basically, yes, I am going to keep going for titles (once my quota gets renewed so I can play as much as I want without the fear of getting shaped to 64k), since the titles and achievements from GW1 will be recorded in the Hall of Monuments, so your character will in effect live on, even though you can't play them.

Well, the simple solution here would be to just recreate your character in GW2 using as close to the same physical appearance as possible, and the same name. No need for limitations if all you want to do is look the same as in GW1.

Oh, one last thing:

So you're saying that just because we can hit something big with a sword, we should then acquire the ability to time travel? Tyria (the entire world, just for anyone confused) don't even have combustion engines yet. They have developed some explosives (as seen by the Deldrimor dwarves), so projectile weaponry utilizing this knowledge of explosives (ie guns) can't be too far off, but that's nowhere near developing a combustion engine, let alone a spaceship, let alone any sort of device that would allow free movement through time. It just wouldn't be believable if our characters somehow found a way to get transported to the future. Oh and there is that whole game engine limitation that I was talking about before.

Titles are my only gripe about the transfer (AND MY SIN *wails*) But oh well. New game. New start. It's all shiney and new ^-^
The Hall of Monuments is supposed to be a place where you can record your titles. In turn, those titles will "unlock" something in GW2. How this works, what they unlock, and the benefit of which titles to achieve or ignore over others will not be seen anytime soon.

In relation to the post, why not just say some "magic" sent them into the future?
No need for mechanical devices.
However, and more realistically, the whole discussion about new game engine and how it works was the main factor of why characters will not be simply crossing over into GW2.

I agree 100%
WHY in hell they had to open the mouth and say we can't pass characters, armors, money... since that day this game lost all the incentive. If they are going to do that just don't call it Guild Wars call it whatever other name, that is what pisses me off the most.

If GW2 is supposed to be set hundreds of years in the future, how would our current characters live that long? I mean yeah you can get resurrected, but characters do appear to age. Not really so much during the game, but you see a few kids, average age people, and some older people. Like that old fart master togo.

One thing that kind of bothered me with the stories was some characters would die no matter what age they were. Yet we could just get resurrected. Why couldn't they? Was it that nobody cared enough to resurrect them? lol It's like someone saying "oh master togo just bit the big one, but I can't be bothered to rez him". R.I.P

Anyway along those lines my point is it wouldn't make much sense if our characters were still alive hundreds of years later. Which is why the hall of monuments is there to keep track of the accomplishments made by them. Which leads me to another point, if I made an Asura in GW2, who was a descendant of my human rt/n. Well I think most of you might see something wrong here.

From a non RP point of view, yeah it does suck that most of my time spent in GW1 will go down the drain. "With the exception of Hom". However I still look forward to a fresh start and hopefully a game that will be kind of different from the current trend of mmo games. I don't do the p2p scene, but i've been through tons of f2p ones and wow what a long and boring ride.

Really it's to early to make any final judgements on GW2 in my opinion. I'm not sure how much further they could of carried GW1 anyway. I mean i've loved the ride so far, but eventualy, just like any game, it's going to get stale.

My 2 gp.

Guys, Super Mario 64 is coming out soon. Why should I bother continuing through Super Mario World now? It'll be meaningless.

people, Guild Wars 3 will possibly be coming out in the future sometime - why waste your time with GW2?

Starting over will be one of the greatest things that will happen when I start playing GW2. I will miss my guild wars characters for about a month, about as long as I miss all the time I put in on my playstation.

If you want to accomplish something meaningful do so in RL where it matters.

to a few posters here could we please stop calling every new mmo a world of warcraft clone? seriously its getting old and annoying. why dont you compare them to everquest, ultima online, or dark age of camelot ever heard of those? probably not because you think world of warcraft created everything when those games came before it and established the mmo genre.

besides guild wars 2 is 2 years aways and it can change from its original concept to maybe improving and adding new thing into the game that has never been used before in previous online games. same thing is happening to new mmo games that are coming out this year and the next where they are improving and adding new things and they are not a goddamn world of warcraft clone. i bet that when one of these new mmo games get popular, every new game after it you are going to call it a clone to that.

im glad that they are moving on and starting over with guild wars 2 and hope that they add something new and innovated but they might be limited to what they want to add in the game because of the no monthly fee model.

In other news, the latest BMW sportscar is a Model T clone, and that Alienware PC you've been wanting - Apple II clone all the way.

Don't buy GW2 if you don't want to. Geez, it's over two years away...

If you don't like it...then don't get it. Not to mention why complain about something that's 2years away. It's supposed to be a fresh start for everyone so get over it.

Everything is bound to end eventually. You can't expect to be able to play same GW1 for an eternity...

Same thing happened to WoW... Before the expansion - you had you level 60 characters geared with uber loot you wasted a year to get and then in one day all that became nothing when expansion came with casual items owning that uber loot you worked hard for, basically it was no different - continuing with existing char or making a new one, since you previous achievements were void anyway. The only thing I so far have left of original WoW is a character name and face, which is replicable anyway...

GW2 is a Burning Crusade of GW, simple...

Too much content? I beat all three campaigns with one char, and now it is virtually identical for the other 9. There is a severe lack of content in GW in my opinion.

As for Darksun's comment, persistent world? I don't think that anyone can truly point out an MMO of any kind out there that is even remotely persistent. I mean respawns happen, quests are the same for each and every player in the game, there isn't any persistence anywhere. If there was, then the very first person/group to kill Varesh would have ruined the game for everyone else.

Closest to persistent I can think of, was Diablo II in Hard Core mode or whatever it was called. You die once, and it was all over for that char....

Here's an idea. Stop playing GW and just wait (find some other way to waste your time or go out and do something IRL that is truely productive.) around for 2 years until GW2 comes out. Once a person views what they're doing in GW as "work" it's time to take a break and get some perspective.

Work = job = not done for fun = very little entertainment value

GW = GAME = meant to be fun = only purpose is to provide entertainment.

As you can see, Work =/= GW

As for me, I'm not going to worry about a game that's 2 years away that I may never play. I'm hoping to discover girls by then

If you are working on GW, and not enjoying it. Then why are you playing it? You can't seriously think that titles are going to get you somewhere in life? You play the game, you have fun. You stop having fun, guess what?

If you have fun then you are not "working" for titles.
If you are not having fun, why are you playing?

Compare this to a Final Fantasy game. Some of them you can finish at level 50ish. Now, if you grind to level 99, would it be unfair for you not to be able to use that character in the next game?
